The reason I love working for White stuff is the way the brand has an inclusive, family feel. Where you can be an independent spirit and help develop others along with broadening your own skills and knowledge too. I feel being a Customer Host Supervisor is being the bridge between management and the team, helping to develop new skills and deligate where appropriate. Along with the day-to-day tasks of running the store my duties include commercial reporting, keyholding, being a role model to the rest of the team with great customer service and communicating to the team our stores performance. I really enjoy the variation my role offers as; I like to help my team achieve their own goals and learn along the way!

Being a store manager at White Stuff gives you a lot of variety in your role, you could be rolling your sleeves up getting stuck into processing a delivery with the team one minute or using your creative flare launching the new collection the next, not mention having fun with your customers. The White Stuff family has a great support network full of experience and knowledge, a place where you can develop your own skills and drive your business forward. Coming from an extreme sports background I have always worked with brands that I have an affiliation with, and having heard great things about White Stuff, such as how they look after people from store teams to supply chain with an emphasis on fairness, metal health and wellbeing. The brand really does care and the evidence of this is through the charities that it supports by donating 1% of its profit every year. So, when the opportunity came to join the brand I snapped at the chance! If you are the sort of leader who loves developing people and really has a flair for commerciality and being creative then White Stuff is certainly the place for you.

The interview process
Depending on the role & location the interview process may vary. But in general:
Customer Host & Customer Host Supervisor Roles:
- Online applications are reviewed by the Shop Manager.
- Shortlisted candidates may have a first stage telephone call.
- All candidates will meet the Shop Manager in a face-to-face interview within the store. As part of this process you may be shown around the shop and asked how you might deal with certain situations. The purpose of this is to assess your understanding of the retail environment.
Shop Managers & Deputy Shop Managers:
- Online applications are screened by the central recruitment team
- Shortlisted candidates will have an initial telephone call with the central recruitment team.
- All successful candidates will then have a face-to-face interview in the shop with the line manager (for Deputy Manager applications this will be with the Shop Manager. For Shop Manager applications this will be with the Area Manager)
- There may then be an additional face to face stage (eg a Deputy Manager meeting the Area Manager, or for a big store, then a Shop Manager candidate may meet the Head of Retail).
All Deputy and Shop Manager interviews will involve a floor walk.

I am very grateful to be part of the White Stuff team. A day in the life of a Deputy Manager is a mixture of fun and challenges; from commercial decisions and reports, action planning, to visual merchandising and coaching. The interesting thing is no two days are the same and I love that aspect of the job, it’s so rewarding constantly overcoming challenges and finding solutions. I started off as a customer host 8 years ago so my heart still lies with our customer and ensuring their experience in our store is the best. We have a fabulous team here and we take pride in our reputation and customer service that we are well known for. Team work was absolutely essential in any of the positions I have had, and clear communication and expectations ensures that we are all striving to achieve the results we need. I love working with so many different characters and it’s my job to develop and coach my team in ways to maximize their strengths and capabilities and lead them in the right direction. My experience and skills as a Customer Host Supervisor gave me a solid base to prepare me for my new role as a Deputy. I get to see a much wider overview of the business and how commercial planning is key in setting ourselves up for success on a daily basis.
