Learning & Development Manager

Primary objective of the job:
- This role oversees the L&D function at White Stuff, holding responsibility for employee training, learning and progression across Retail, Head Office, Customer Services, and the Distribution Centre. The successful candidate will lead effective induction, talent management, internal and external training provision, and provide development opportunities throughout the employee lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing:
Talent Management
- Hold responsibility for the learning cycle including talent mapping and calibration, presenting outcomes and recommendations to Senior Leadership.
- Conduct learning needs analyses across teams to identify skills gaps and provide solutions.
- Create and oversee development initiatives for key groups such as first-time line managers and leadership.
- Support employee engagement and retention, helping to increase progression opportunities and meet development needs.
- Support the People Team with the continuous improvement and rollout of induction processes, ensuring new starters receive the best welcome to White Stuff.
Learning and Training Delivery
- Design, organise, and deliver impactful and effective learning and development solutions to meet individual, team, and business needs.
- Partner and collaborate with key stakeholders to understand learning needs, direct content, and support wider functions such as Retail Operations.
- Ensure consistency and flow with L&D across training programmes, inductions, workshops, People team strategy, and People team materials.
- Identify, select, and manage external training providers to ensure cohesion with White Stuff’s values and branding.
- Oversee the training budget and partner with relevant stakeholders accordingly.
- Upskill and coach Retail and Head Office colleagues to deliver training sessions.
- Hold responsibility for compliance reporting across Head Office, Retail and the Distribution Centre and Customer Care.
Wider Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the learning management system, including advising colleagues, providing training, and keeping the content library updated with brand changes.
- Oversee compliance training, including managing reports, supporting completion, and communicating with management and leadership.
- Report on the completion and success of L&D initiatives in relation to engagement, impact on performance, and skills growth.
- Support with wellbeing, charity, and diversity & inclusion initiatives.
- Represent the People team at events such as Cluster meetings and brand events, communicating relevant updates.
- Create, design, and contribute to People team and Retail Operations communications, newsletters, templates, and calendars.
- Provide direction and support to People team colleagues.
What you’ll need:
- Hold a high attention to detail and high quality standards, and encourage others to do the same.
- Build strong relationships, creditability, and trust with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Invest in self-development and be proactive in ensuring the L&D function at White Stuff incorporates new and evolving industry research and trends.
- Confidence learning and using new technologies such as content design, AI, and learning management systems.
- A qualification relevant to the role (such as with CIPD) is desirable but not essential.
