Who you are:
As the Senior Designer for Knitwear & Jersey, you will lead the creative direction and execution of the category, delivering standout, trend-driven collections that align with the brand’s aesthetic and commercial goals. A strong creative yet commercial & inspirational Senior Designer who is an innovative creative leader that can find the right balance between creativity with a sense of humour in the product handwriting. Blending deep technical knowledge with trend awareness, you’ll craft innovative and cohesive ranges that captivate our customer. You’ll inspire and guide a small team, working closely with cross-functional partners to ensure a seamless balance of creativity, quality, and commercial success that are inspirational and unique, that surprise and delight our customer.
Primary objective of the job:
You will drive the knitwear and jersey product development in tandem with the wider design and buying team, identifying relevant trends & new yarns, fabrics and silhouettes delivering innovation & driving growth to meet business KPI’s. Create knit and jersey designs that offer newness, choice & a cohesive handwriting throughout the seasons so that White Stuff stands out from the crowd, this is imperative to make the brand look & feel different & capture new customers in the UK & international markets.
What you’ll be doing
- Own and drive the end-to-end design process for Knitwear & Jersey—from initial concept to sealed sample—adhering to the critical path and seasonal timelines.
- Create directional mood boards that define seasonal trends, colour palettes, yarns, and silhouettes, ensuring a strong and relevant point of view.
- Collaborate with the Head of Design to develop cohesive, outfitting-led collections that complement the broader product offer with that White Stuff twist.
- Partner with other Senior Designers to ensure outfitting across categories is clear, compelling, and customer-centric.
- Source and develop yarns and fabrics, designing within fabric groups to maximize impact and commercial viability.
- Produce CADs and comprehensive tech packs that clearly communicate design intent and construction details. Fully CAD literate within Photoshop, Illustrator & PowerPoint
- Manage and mentor a small team (2 direct reports), providing creative leadership, clear direction, and ongoing development.
- Liaise with far east suppliers to ensure quality execution, timely development, and production alignment.
- Oversee proto development, ensuring first samples meet expectations in fit, construction, and finish, in collaboration with Buying and Technical teams.
- Analyze performance data—including sales, returns, and customer feedback—to inform design direction and improve future ranges.
- Work closely with the Buying team to maintain strong supplier relationships and manage development milestones.
- Apply cost-effective design strategies to deliver high-impact product while meeting margin targets.
- Support seasonal planning with research, trend analysis, colour palettes, and concept presentations.
- Be an active presence in the studio, fostering collaboration and team momentum.
- Strategical thinking and be to stand back from the day-to-day issues to see & act on the bigger picture
- Excellent team player who leads by example to wider team & division & be seen as a brand ambassador.
- Very competent communication, influencing, negotiation skills, good working ethics & able to work with peers equally in managing up/down
- Identifies improvements in existing ways of working to achieve all KPI’s, communicates this clearly to the team
- Strong energized & engaging presentation skills showing a positive/pro-active approach
What you’ll need:
- Significant experience in fashion design, with a strong focus on Knitwear and Jersey.
- Deep technical knowledge of yarns, construction methods, and fabric development.
- A proven ability to create designs that are both creatively exciting and commercially successful.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide and inspire a design team.
- A sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of styling and outfitting across categories.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with strong CAD and technical drawing skills.
- A keen understanding of fashion trends, market shifts, and customer insights.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized, proactive, and solution-focused, with a drive for excellence.
