Who you are:
The successful Financial Accountant will be a qualified or finalist ACCA/CIMA/ACA accountant, with a background in retail or other multi-site businesses, who strives to deliver continuous improvement. You must be a good communicator, have strong analytical skills, technically sound, timely and pay close attention to detail. This role will manage two cash and banking accountants.
Primary objective of the job:
- As part of the Financial Accounting team, the role will be varied and will be primarily across financial accounts of White Stuff Limited and White Stuff Foundation, management accounts and complex bank reconciliations.
- White Stuff is across 3 main channels, Shops, Online and Wholesale, predominantly in UK and EU.
Outside of the UK, Germany is our main market for shops, concessions, online and wholesale.
As a result it makes the legal and tax set up an interesting and diverse experience and provides a wide range of regulatory reporting requirements. White Stuff is looking to expand outside of the EU, which will create further opportunities, making it a very exciting time for the business.
What you’ll be doing:
Management Accounts and Budgets
- Responsible for multiple Head-Office departments and overheads including Merch, Contact Centre, Foundation, CAPEX and more.
- Provide commentary for monthly managements accounts pack in those areas.
- Business Partner with senior management and leaders within the business such as CFO / Head of Finance / Capex Committee.
- Work closely with Commercial finance team.
- Managing the fixed asset register for month end, year end and forecasting.
- Perform monthly balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
- Identify risks and opportunities with both a historic and forecast mindset.
Banking
- Direct line manage two cash and banking accountants.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations in a timely manner to ensure all customer receipts are reconciled.
- Working with the financial accounts team to assist in other banking areas.
Foundation
- Responsible for White Stuff Foundation financial accounting by completing the quarterly management accounts ahead of each Trustee meeting.
- Leading the year end audit and working closely with external auditors.
- Assisting the Company Secretary with ad hoc requests relating to the Foundation.
Other
- Ad hoc support to Senior Financial Accounting Manager and Group Financial Controller.
- National Statistic requests / NI Bag Levy / Capital Allowances for year end.
What you’ll need:
Successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviours:
- Qualified accountant or finalist ACCA/CIMA/ACA with relevant financial experience.
- Financial Accountant experience (essential).
- Managerial experience (essential).
- Bank reconciliation experience (essential).
- Retail and B2C international experience (preferable).
- Organised – to ensure deadlines are kept and expectations are managed.
- Communication – clear and concise communication with colleagues at all levels.
- Relationship building – develop effective relationships that help drive business success, particularly with non-finance stakeholders.
- Resilience – the ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced and busy retail environment.
- IT skills – ability to navigate and understand accounting systems and intermediate-advanced Excel skills. Accounting system being used is Microsoft NAV.
